Mentor Trainings and Socials
We are working towards improving our training and support for our mentors. One way to do this is to provide opportunities for mentors to share and learn from each other with mentor socials. The socials will give mentors an opportunity to share stories, resources, ideas, or concerns about their matches.The socials will take place every other month at various times and locations. Mentor Duluth will provide refreshments and staff to help facilitate discussions. Additionally, watch for more formal and specific training sessions in the monthly newsletters. Here is what we have coming up:
- MAY:
- Mentor Social at YMCA in the second floor conference room – Thursday, May 15 from 6:00–7:00 p.m.
- JUNE:
- Cultural intelligence training for mentors with guest presenter, April McHugh from the Mentoring Partnership of MN – Tuesday, June 17 from 6:00–8:00 p.m.
- JULY:
- Mentor Social at Jitters Coffee Shop – Saturday, July 13 from 9:00–10:00 p.m.

Match of the Month
Mentor Duluth would like to thank the AAD Shrine Provost Unit for generously donating tickets for the Shrine Circus. More than 40 mentors and their mentees were able to attend the circus. Thank you for providing this opportunity!
Auzauria has been matched with Eileen for almost two years. Auzauria´s favorite thing to do is to go to Eileen´s house. At Eileen´s they do anything from school work, to playing with play–doh, to watching the birds at Eileen´s bird feeder. One of Auzauria´s favorite memories is when she and Eileen had a water fight with the hose! Eileen says Auzauria got her really good with the hose! Some other activities they´ve gotten to do together include going to the aquarium, the zoo, and seeing the musical Cats.
Auzauria´s mom says their match has united two families. She says Auzauria and Eileen are a "perfect match" and that they will be stuck with each other forever because they are so attached! Eileen goes out of her way to find new things for Auzauria to experience like bringing her to a pottery class and helping her learn to cook. Auzauria´s mom and Eileen get along great. They have lunch on occasion, attend a book club together, and make sure to plan a time around the holidays for their families to celebrate together. Auzauria´s mom says "this is what is supposed to happen!"

Hartley Nature Center
Hartley Nature Center will be hosting a Youth Outdoor Expo on Saturday, May 3rd. You will rotate through various nature stations, eat lunch, and win cool prizes. Registration is required. For more information visit their website at www.hartleynature.org or call (218) 724–6735.

Who´s your papa? Papa Murphy´s pizza "workshop"!!!

- 10 matches (ages 9 or older) will be introduced to the "secret" of creating pizza at Papa Murphy´s "Take ´n´ Bake" Pizza. Learn how dough is made, watch a 45 lb brick of cheese be grated and learn how to top a pizza as well as season one. Once you have learned the "tricks of the trade" you will be able to create your own 6" personal pizza Call the Mentor Duluth office at 722–4745 ext. 120 to sign up.
Saturday Teen Yoga

- Eight matches (mentees 12–18 years) can "stretch" into their weekend by participating in yoga at "Over the Top" Dance studio. You will learn the basics of yoga to connect with the mind, body, and spirit which will include deep breathing, stretching, and posing. Be sure to wear loose clothing. PAL Activity
Skateboarding at the Encounter

- Duluth´s only indoor skate park, the Encounter, will be hosting Mentor Duluth waiting list kids and youth for a night of skateboarding. We also have a group of skateboarding volunteers who will join us, and hopefully can teach less experienced skaters a trick or two. Please bring your own equipment if you have it. The Encounter requires a parent/guardian consent form for participation in this event. We will get the form to you, but all participants must bring a signed copy on the day of the event in order to skate. Call the Mentor Duluth office at 722–4745, ext. 120 to sign up.
Waiting List Kids Activity
Create & Paint a Magnetic Word Board
