How Are Children Matched?

Once the family has completed their intake interview and the Mentor has finished their screening process we start the process of making a match.

"Pick a Child" Meeting: Mentors learn about up to four youth using a picture and biography, and selects the one that they think will be the best fit.  The child is not aware that they are being presented so there is no risk of rejection.

Parent/Mentor Meeting: Parent, Program Advocate and potential mentor meet.  Mentor introduces self and asks questions. Parent talks about the youth, ask question of the mentor.  Mentor and Parent discuss sensitive issues or boundaries.  If all agree to precede a match meeting is scheduled.  The child is still not aware of the potential match.

Match Meeting: Parent, child, mentor and Program Advocate meet.  Child and mentor introduce themselves.  Program Advocate reviews expectations and answers any additional questions.  Final match paperwork is completed.  Official match photo is taken.

On-going support to mentor, child and family from Program Advocate: Additionally, mentor must attend orientation and training within the first six months of the match.  The Program Advocate is also there for any problems that arise or question the mentor or family need answered.
